“The 20-year-old Indian faces a new stage in sports alongside Javier Ferrer”

Defeating Yuki Bhambri and Jay Clarke in successive matches to clinch his ATP Challenger Tour singles title at Bengalaru (India) last year was a huge achievementfor Sumit Nagal. It pushed his world ranking into the 200s after it was hovering around the 300s for a while.

Winning a tournament gives you confidence. Every time you win, it makes you believe more and trust things that you are working on. Since Bengaluru, I have been playing better.

«Things are going well and I’ve been training hard. I am happy with my training and competitions. Now I am going to participate in the Dubai Duty Free tournament. It will be the first time that I played the main draw table in an ATP 500.»

I’m enjoying the sessions with my new coach Javier Ferrer. I will learn and improve day by day with Ferrer’s Method at his Academy in Spain” Nagal said.

Playing his First Grand Slam at this year’s Australian Open, Nagal appeared nervous and let Italy’s Allesandro Giannessi off the hook on many occasions in the qualifying round and went on to lose.

Breaking into the top 150 this year is my goal. Then I can start playing in ATP 250 and 500 events.

“It was my first Slam as a profesional. The match was both good and bad. I think I deserved to win. But Giannessi had more experience and found a way to win,” said ranked 220 in the world.

“Sumit is a talented player but needs to improve his backhand. Also we will work on his mental control trying to get a fighter mindset.” Javier Ferrer
